What is AIRFLOW® Polishing with GBT?

At The Parks, we have incorporated the EMS AIRFLOW® Prophylaxis Master system with Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) into our dental hygiene treatments. This cutting-edge system revolutionises dental care by providing a superior cleaning and polishing experience.

The advanced technology behind this system allows for a deep, thorough cleaning of your teeth, including those hard-to-reach areas that everyday brushing often misses. Despite its powerful cleaning capabilities, the treatment is gentle and minimally abrasive, making it an ideal method to manage harmful bacteria, known as biofilm, which can lead to serious oral and systemic health issues.

Understanding Biofilm

Biofilm is a sticky, invisible layer of bacteria that forms on the surfaces of your teeth and soft tissues. It feeds on the sugars in your diet, producing acids that can cause tooth decay. Left unchecked, biofilm can become a gateway for bacteria, which has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and other serious conditions.

How Does AIRFLOW® with GBT Work?

Our EMS system efficiently removes biofilm, plaque, stubborn stains, and discoloration using a combination of warm water, compressed air, and a fine erythritol powder. This gentle yet effective process cleans both above and below the gum-line, disrupting harmful bacteria before they can cause lasting damage.

The 8 Steps of AIRFLOW® with GBT

  1. Assess: We begin by evaluating your teeth and gums, checking for any signs of gum disease.
  2. Disclose: We apply a special dye to make the biofilm visible, highlighting areas where build-up has occurred and guiding a targeted cleaning.
  3. Motivate: Using the disclosed areas, we provide personalised oral hygiene advice to help you improve your at-home cleaning routine.
  4. AIRFLOW®: Warm water, compressed air, and fine erythritol powder are used to gently remove the now visible biofilm from all surfaces, including gums and tongue.
  5. PERIOFLOW®: For patients with advanced gum disease, we perform a deeper, more thorough clean in periodontal pockets.
  6. PIEZON®: The PIEZON® ultrasonic scaler is used to painlessly remove any remaining hardened plaque (calculus).
  7. Quality Control: A final check ensures that all biofilm, stains, and calculus have been completely eliminated.
  8. Recall: We address any questions you may have and provide at-home care recommendations. Your hygienist will advise you on when to schedule your next appointment based on your specific needs.
