Ever wondered what a chemical peel actually is or what is does for the skin? A chemical peel is a solution generally made from specific acids mixed together to make an effective skin resurfacing treatment. The acids used can include Salicylic, Lactic and Glycolic acids. These are examples of common superficial peels however the strength of a peel can increase to a TCA which is a very deep chemical peel aiming to remove the full epidermal tissue. Here in our clinic, we only recommend patients to have a TCA chemical peel after a course of superficial peels as this builds up a tolerance in the skin. TCA peels are great for pigmentation, lines and wrinkles and scaring like acne scars.
Chemical Peels – Kingswood Parks Dental (kingswoodparksclinics.co.uk)
A chemical peel is a combination of acids working together to exfoliate the top layers of the epidermis. This improves the overall skin texture, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves pore size, and improves the appearance of pigmentation. Chemical peels also aim to regenerate the skin by speeding up the cell regeneration process.
Most commonly, we see patients who suffer with acne and breakouts- chemical peels help to fight the bacteria in the skin which causes breakouts. And also, those affected by pigmentation as chemical peels helps lighten the skin; for example hyperpigmentation patches. This works well because of the combination of acids in the peels which lighten the skin and help slough away dead skin cells carrying the pigmentation. They reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation by removing the epidermis.
Each peel is carefully selected to target patients concerns and skin problems. Here at Kingwood Parks Clinics, we usually recommend a course of peels if it is to target a certain concern like fine lines, acne, or pigmentation. Usually, 3-5 peels will be enough to see profound results with your skin. Many people like to have one peel every 3-6 months to brighten their skin dramatically, and our peels give a healthy glow to the skin to give our overall skin a boost and bacteria that has built up.
But what about the downtime? Alumier MD chemical peels do not generally make your skin shed or peel and are formulated to reduce irritation and redness. These peels are a light to medium depth and the exfoliation you experience will not be visible to the naked eye. You will experience slightly more sensitivity to the sun, as your skin is renewing itself, due to the peel increasing cellular turnover.
So overall, chemical peels are good for everyone. They fight active acne, improve the appearance of pigmentation, tighten and close pores, reverse the signs of ageing, calm rosacea and settle sensitive skin, improve lines and wrinkles on the skin and leave your face beautifully glowing. Alumier MD chemical peels are formulated to be safe for all shades of skin on the Fitzpatrick scale, allowing us to treat everybody without risks or cautions.
Here at Kingswood Parks Clinics, we like to send every skincare patient an Alumier MD prescription link which enables you to continue caring for your skin with medical grade products at home, which we also use in-house here. We do stress the importance of maintaining your skincare routine at home after investing in skin treatments. The priority is cleansing your skin routinely twice a day to remove all sebum and bacteria from the skin, and secondly to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays which hits our skin from all angles daily. Especially after a chemical peel, we are removing part of the epidermis which also acts as the skin’s protector. So, using a factor 30+ is essential!!
