National Dentist’s Day- March 6th

about us

The 6th of March is National Dentist’s Day! We applaud all dentists around the world, especially ours!! Dentists truly work hard at what they do, providing great oral hygiene advice, helping save and preserve the natural tooth tissue, and overall giving you your dream smiles.

The dentists here at Kingswood Parks Clinics are no exception, they love to help all patients, make them feel better about their smiles and enhance their confidence all while maintaining good oral standards and preserving the natural teeth.

We asked our dentists some questions to get their thoughts, opinions and see where they differ!!

Dr Jack Humphries – Jack used to be a dental therapist prior to being a dentist, so was used to performing gum treatments and fillings prior to doing more dental work!

What is your favourite treatment to do?

Invisalign! Helping people achieve their dream smile and giving full alignment of the teeth. It really is the best go-to treatment as an alternative to traditional orthodontics.

What tip can you give for oral hygiene advice?

Floss! Floss ! Floss! It’s so important to maintain good oral hygiene and keep the gums healthy! Our toothbrushes only effectively remove 60% of surface plaque and can’t get in between the teeth.

What is the 1 piece of advice you would give anyone wanting to be a dentist?

Be a team player and love talking! It goes without saying that you can’t be quiet when talking about dentistry! You need to be able to work as a team to provide top class dental work!!

What are your thoughts on patients going abroad to seek cheaper dental options?

Although abroad options may be cheaper short term, we strongly recommend thinking about the long-term costs of replacement, root canal treatment (if too much tooth tissue is taken away) and overall up-keep and maintenance. Any cosmetic work needs to be kept up with and always includes some form of downside. Always see the same clinician for your treatment and after care!

What would you say to a patient who is extremely nervous?

There isn’t any need to be. We always like to make sure patients feel at ease and welcoming through their appointments or introductions to the practice. Please don’t be nervous we’re only here to help!

Dr Gary Rowland – Gary used to be a surfer in Bondi prior to dentistry as well as working on a building site in Sydney!

What is your favourite treatment to do?

RCT – root canal treatment, it’s very unpredictable and very satisfying to do. Keeps the day going and I love doing them!

What tip can you give for oral hygiene advice?

Disclosing tablets are a great way to help with over all removal of plaque and make sure you’re brushing correctly. To use these simply brush your teeth as you would normally and use one to see where you may have missed and try to not avoid or miss that area next time!

What is the 1 piece of advice you would give anyone wanting to be a dentist?

You must be a people person! The job involves seeing and speaking to everyone worldwide so you must love been chatty and seeing people on a daily basis!

What are your thoughts on patients going abroad to seek cheaper dental options?

Dental care is not a consumer product like buying a car or washing machine. Treatment requires careful planning and follow up, you are paying for a precise service which is something that requires careful consideration and not quick fit dentistry. The type of treatments people generally go abroad for, have far more complications later and is often a lot more destructive to the natural teeth, compared to ethically balanced treatment planning that you can expect when you have your treatment locally.

What would you say to a patient who is extremely nervous?

There isn’t anything to be nervous about! We aim to do our best in making sure very one is comfortable and they have a great experience. So tell us what you like to watch or listen too and we will try our hardest to make it as comfortable for you!

Dr Kara Isik – Kara used to drive a smart car in London with a Dutch number plate for 3 years, and the wheel was on the opposite side!

What is your favourite treatment to do?

My favourite treatments are ortho; it is a huge satisfaction to see the smile and happiness on patients faces when they look in the mirror at the end of their treatment.

What tip can you give for oral hygiene advice?

Keep it simple and do-able, so they can practice it on a daily basis within their busy work/family life. We can give the advice to use the most fancy product x times a day, but if it does not fit in their routine, it will not work!

What is the 1 piece of advice you would give anyone wanting to be a dentist?

Love the job and not the money!

What are your thoughts on patients going abroad to seek cheaper dental options?

Do not come back to me to get it fixed!! Obviously some are very good places as well, which is important to mention, but good dental care has to be based on regularity. No matter where, if you get your teeth treated and disappear from their dental register, you will have problems sooner or later. To have the work done elsewhere and ask your regular dentist to look after them is not ethical, in my opinion!

What would you say to a patient who is extremely nervous?

Come for a coffee or cup of tea and let’s talk about it. Do not avoid the dentist until you have massive problems that are harder to sort out and a cause for more issues later on. Those big, painful problems can be fixed with small, pain free, simple treatments when they are spotted at an early stage.
