We recognise that you can find out lots of information about treatments online, however believe it is good to hear about others’ experiences too. When you attend Kingswood Parks Clinics, generally there will be someone within the practice who has had the treatment you may need or be interested in, so feel free to ask us.
Micro-Needling – Kingswood Parks Dental (kingswoodparksclinics.co.uk)
When I was younger I did suffer with blemishes, however as I have got older, generally spots are more hormonal, but still have some scarring and pigmentation. I am also much more aware of fine lines around my forehead, eyes and mouth. I had always been interested in micro needling, however before gaining more of an understanding about the procedure, was wary of any pain and significant redness.
Microneedling is a procedure that uses tiny needles to puncture the first layer of skin. It is performed to help rejuvenate your skin by boosting collagen production, which in turn reduces the appearances of wrinkles, fine lines and improves the overall texture of your skin, plus reduces scars and hyperpigmentation.
Around 2 months prior to this current treatment, I had micro needling but half my face was of medical grade and half beauty grade. This was to compare the difference in the treatment, effects and results. On this occasion, my treatment at medical grade level was at a depth of 0.8mm on my forehead and nose and 1.6mm on the rest of my face. The main difference between medical and beauty grade micro needling is the depth of the needling, which in turn varies the redness of the skin (erythema).
The whole treatment took just over 1 hour, I attended the practice wearing very little make up, however my skin was cleansed using Alumier Purifying Gel Cleanser, and once dried prescription strength numbing cream was applied thickly all over my face (other than on my eye lids and lips) and left for roughly 30 minutes.
The practitioner performed the needling all over my face; the process was not painful at all, there was the slightest discomfort on the forehead and jawline only.
Immediately after the treatment I was very red and was for the remainder of the day, my skin felt tight, but not painful. On the evening and following morning I used Alumier Purifying Gel Cleanser and Alumier Recovery Balm, I continued with this 2-3 times per day, every day for 3 days. After the 3 days I stopped using Recovery Balm and continued with my usual moisturiser. I was advised to avoid direct sunlight for 3 days post treatment and use an SPF; as we all should every day regardless, however was imperative, after such a treatment like this. I was also told to not drink alcohol or exercise for 24 hours after the procedure and not touch my face or apply make-up or any other products other than what had been advised.
By day 3 the redness had completely gone, but suffered from some dryness and tightness until day 6 post treatment. The results were apparent quite soon after the treatment, I wasn’t having to wear foundation, but only a tinted BB cream- my skin appeared smoother and clearer.
I would recommend this treatment to everyone; regardless of your age, and to not be put off by the images we all see of celebrities like Kim Kardashian on social media, immediately post treatment. It has been suggested I have this treatment every 4-6 weeks and is ideal to use alongside other treatments and skincare I have been recommended. I can’t wait to have my next treatment!
